Distinguished for his researches in physical chemistry, particularly in connection with heterogeneous equilibria and the formation of solid solutions. Author of 'The Phase Rule and the Study of Heterogeneous Equilibria' (1923, Oxford University Press). Professor of Chemistry in the University of Melbourne, 1924-1927. Distinguished also for his work as Deputy-Chairman and Executive Officer of the Australian Council for Scientific and Industrial Research since 1927. Sir David Rivett has been chiefly responsible for the organisation of scientific and industrial research under the Australian Government. Much of this work has already produced results of great value to Australia, and it is well known that this largely due to Sir David Rivett's inspiration and leadership.
