Distinguished for his researches in palaeobotany. His numerous publications from 1923 to 1936 cover a wide field and are charaacterised by thoroughness of treatment. His work has distinction and he is recognised in Britain and abroad as one of the leading palaeobotanists. By devising special methods of technique he has very materially improved our means of investigating fossil plants. He is a good all-round botanist possessed of breadth of view and marked originality. A list of his more important publications is appended.
