CitationProfessor of Botany in the University of Capetown.
Distinguished for his researches in plant ecology in Britain, Australia and South Africa. Among his South African ecological work an important analysis of the life-forms and succession of vegetation in the Cape Peninsula, and a general volume on the 'Vegetation of South Africa', which includes many original data collected on an extensive tour through the whole of the Union, are outstanding. Has also published valuable papers on the anatomy of 'Veronica' 'Juncus' Iradaceae and Compositae
