Distinguished for extensive reserches on many branches of pure and applied physical and organic chemistry. Amongst these a valuable series on the viscosity of liquids and liquid mixtures, and the relation of this property to chemical constitution; and various papers dealing with the acridine series. During long connection with the petroleum industry has published many important papers, e.g., the use of hypochlorites and of bauxite in the refining of crude oils, lubrication, the cracking process, etc. Was Managing Editor of the important work entitled 'Science of Petroleum' (1938, Oxford University Press). From 1920 to the present date has been Honorary Editor for the Institution of Petroleum Technologists. List of publications attached.
