Has carried out original investigations of outstanding merit in physical chemistry, particularly in the field of photochemical and thermal kinetics. As a result of this work the mechanism and energetics of numerous molecular and ionic processes in solution have been quantitatively elucidated. The greater part of these investigtions has been carried out in collaboration with his colleague, Dr A McKeown. Number of original papers published, 27 ; other publications, 8 (titles attached). Dr Giffith is also the author, together with Dr McKeown, of a valuable and comprehensive treatise, entitled, 'Photo-processes in Gaseous and Liquid Systems' (Longmans 'Textbooks of Physical Chemistry' ).
