CitationAndrew, John Harold (Sheffield.) Professor of Metallurgy in the University of Sheffield. Distinguished for his contributions to the knowledge of steels. He has pubished valuable papers on the production and treatment of tool and structural steels, on the influence of dissolved gasses on steel, on the cause of temper-brittleness, and on equilibria in certain non-metalic systems (sillicates and sulphides). He has directed an active school of research at Sheffield, and has conducted investigations for several committees of the Iron and Steel Industrial Research Council.
