Citation | Dakin, William Jones (Sydney). Challis Professor of Zoology at the University of Sydney. Distinguished for his researches on marine biology, including the osmotic condition of the blood in aquatic animals, especially in relation to changes in the osmotic condition of the medium in which they are living. He organized and led the two highly successful Percy Sladen Expeditions to the Abrolhos Islands. His studies on the Western Australian species of 'Peripatus' added importantly to our knowledge of the Onychophora. Since 1934 he has acted as Director and Chief Investigator in a biological study of the Pacific Ocean waters off Sydney and has acted as Fisheries Advisor to the Commonwealth Council for Scientific and Industrial Research. |
