CitationPoole, Horace Hewitt (Dublin) Registrar and Chief Scientific Officer, Royal Dublin Society. Controls Royal Dublin Society's Radium Institute and published work on radium therapy. Studied properties of rocks and minerals at high temperatures. Series (Phil. Mag. 1910 onwards), includes radie-active heat evolution, thermal conductivity, dielectric constant, electrical conductivity and its temperature coefficient; also tidal stresses and continental displacements, sub-continental temperatures and thermal instability of earth's crust. All accurate knowledge of submarine illumination has been obtained by his method for photo-electric measurement. (R. Dub. Soc., J. Marine Biol. Assoc., Proc. and Phil. Trans.) Also studied light in woods and seasonal changes in dayklight of much biological importance. List of over 50 papers appended.
