DescriptionEncloses a cheque in payment of his Royal Society subscription [enclosure not present]. Informs he has been paying this fee since his election in 1867, which has totalled to £308 since then, and requests to be relieved of it but failing this he submits that he should receive some recognition for his scientific work at the forthcoming anniversary, especiallt the production of his monograph on the North Atlantic Ocean, owing to its uniqueness and originality. Informs he has communicated this subject to the President who advised him to contact a member of Council. Acdting on the suggestion he contacted Dr [Arthur] Smith Woodward but has yet to hear back.
