Title | Letter from [Edwin] Ray Lankester, British Museum (Natural History), Cromwell Road, London, to the President of the Royal Society |
Creator | Lankester; Sir; Edwin Ray (1847-1929); British zoologist |
Date | 13 January [1903] |
Description | Lankester 'communicated' an important geological paper by a 'competent geologist to the Royal Society', and finds it 'very wrong' to have keppt it hanging. A letter is enclosed by the author 'a lady' [Maria M Ogilvie Gordon]. He suggests the geologists of the Society to take 'responsiblity' and reject the paper or to order its reading. Lankester stresses that 'it is not right for a committee of the Royal Society to prevent the reading of an original paper by a serious and competent author - during a delay of months', and requests the President's consideration on this matter.
Enclosed is a handwritten letter from Maria M Ogilvie Gordon, 1 Rubislaw Terrace, Aberdeen to Professor [Edwin Ray] Lankester, dated 11 January 1903, consisting of four pages. |
