DescriptionNos 1 to 16 Letters and papers concerning Dr Hermann Sprengel's claim of recognition over the discovery of the explosibility of wet guncotton through cumulative detonation. 1891-1893.
Sprengel took issue with a paper by Sir Frederick Abel in which Abel claimed this discovery. Included here are correspondence and statements to the Royal Society on the matter.

Including reports on papers submitted to the Royal Society, papers on the wrongful use of the letters 'FRS', correspondence between the Royal Society and the Meteorological Office.

Nos 69 to 100 Letters from Sir Arthur Evans to Sir William Boyd Dawkins and Lady Dawkins, 1911-1935
Mostly letters describing Evans's archaeological work and on arrangements to meet up with Sir William and Lady Dawkins.

Nos 111 to 120 Letters from Biological Fellows of the Royal Society to WB Hardy, Biological Secretary of the Royal Society, regarding an offer from America to purchase Charles Darwin's Downe House and present it to the nation, 1925.

Nos 121 to 123 Miscellaneous, 19th century.
Consisting of notes on the history of the Society's landed property, 1727-1806; the rules of the Royal Society Club, 1849 and a letter from Edward Sabine to Lord Northampton on co-operation with scientists from around the world on Magnetical and Meteorological Observations.

Nos 124 to 176 Letters from various persons to Sir John Herschel, principally on Royal Society business, 1838-1856
Matters discussed include, the Presidency of the Royal Society (1849); the Southern Telescope; the Government Grant; links with the British Association; the establishment of a Magnetical Observatory, Kew; the Chair of the Physical Committee; the awarding of medals by the Royal Society; the Wintringham Bequest Committee and Sykes's paper about meteorological observations in India.
