Description | Nos 1 to 112 Oddments
Nos 113 to 131 Letters from Edward A Wilson to Sir Archibald Geikie, on the printing and editing of Wilson's account of the National Antarctic Expedition, 1901-1904. Wilson served on the expedition as second surgeon, artist, and vertebrate zoologist. Letters date from 1906-1908.
Nos 132 to 138 Letters from Francis Grant to Sir Edward Sabine. Francis Grant was President of the Royal Academy, 1866-1878. He negotiated the Royal Academy's 999-year lease on Burlington House and it is to the moving of the Academy to that address - and it's effect on the Royal Society's rooms there - that this correspondence refers. The letters are only dated by day and month, though as the RA signed its lease in March 1867 and building work begun in April 1867, it appears the letters date from that year.
Nos 139 to 195 Some correspondence of the Joint Committee of Physics and Meteorology (ca. 1839-1842) See John Cawood, 'The magnetic crusade: science and politics in early Victorian Britain', 'Isis', 70, pp493-518, (1979)
Nos 196 to 208 Letters and papers about the purchase of some books at the sale of Professor Adouin's library by Hippolyte Bailliere on behalf of the Society, c.1842 |
