These documents are referred to in the Royal Society's Council Minutes for the meeting of 29 April 1773: 'Papers of Mr Mountaine, the Hon. Mr Cavendish, Mr Horsley, the Astronomer Royal [Nevil Maskelyne] and the Secretary [Matthew Maty or Charles Morton] containing Instructions and directions for the use of the observers that are to go on the expedition to the N.Pole were read; and it was desired of them that they would be pleased to permit the originals of their respective papers to be kept with the minutes of the Society; and ordered that copies of them be made and delivered to Capt. Phipps'. |
