| Description | The Chemistry or Chemical Sub-Committee of the Royal Society War Committees was oganised in 1914 to provide the assistance of trained chemists to other committees, and to bring together laboratories capable of producing drug supplies during the war. The committee was chaired by Sir William Ramsey and headed by Professor Arthur Crossley of King's College.
The committee papers include correspondence relating to the production of paraldehyde, later acetal, a necessary component in the production of the important anaesthetic beta-eucaine. Other topics briefly featured in the papers include research into atropine. |
