| Administrative history | Keith Dalziel (24 August 1921 - 7 January 1994) was a British biochemist. Born in Salford, Dalziel left school at fourteen to become a laboratory technician at Manchester Victoria Memorial Jewish Hospital. During World War Two, he attended evening degree classes at Salford Technical College, graduating with a First Class Honours Bachelor of Science degree in 1944. In 1955 he took up a Rockefeller Travelling Fellowship in Medicine to work with Nobel Prize winner Hugo Theorell ForMemRS at the Nobel Institute in Stockholm. He specialised in the study of enzymes, and from there followed a productive period working alongside Vincent Massey at the University of Sheffield. Dalziel spent the greater part of his career at the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Oxford, where he was a Fellow at Wolfson College. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1975. He was a great music lover and took early retirement in 1983. |
