Description | Collected original manuscripts and proof sheets used to produce the Illustrated London Almanack. Generally, the material is on annual astronomical events with popular explanations and background for eclipses, planetary positions and other regular phenomema. However there are proof sheets and illustrations relating to natural history and other topics. The scientific editor, James Glaisher, incorporated meteorological data into the annual volumes, but this is rarely present in these books. One volume of the original set (for 1855) is missing.
Volumes are inscribed as being presented by James Glaisher to John Lee of Hartwell House. |
