DescriptionRecord book of the papers received by the Royal Society for publication in the periodicals of the Royal Society. The ledger was used by the Committee of Papers to keep track of the circulation of manuscripts and their decision to publish.

For each manuscript is entered:
Number; title; author(s); communicator(s); date received; date read at meeting of the Committee of Papers; date refereed; name of referees; date of vote; date sent to the Printer; summary decision of publication [journal published in or date returned].

The volume covers manuscripts received between June 1885 and June 1905, which corresponds to printed volumes 176 and 177 of Philosophical Transactions and printed volumes 38 to 75 of Proceedings. It also covers the first volumes following the split between Philosophical Transactions A for mathematical and physical sciences (until vol. 205) and B for biological sciences (until vol. 197).

The following FRS served as editors of the journals during the period covered by the volume:

1896-1901: Arthur Rucker
1901-1912: Joseph Larmor [A side editor]
1903-1908: Sir Archibald Geikie [B side editor]
