Title | Copy letter from Michael Foster, to Sir Courtenay E Boyle, Secretary, Board of Trade, Whitehall Gardens, S.W. |
Date | 20 March 1896 |
Description | Foster explains that their letter of 16 March, reference R 3251, requesting that the President and Council of the Royal Society nominate two members of a committee which they proposed to appoint to investigate the loss of strength in steel rails by prolonged use, was laid before them.
On their behalf, Foster replies to state that they take pleasure in granting assistance to the Board of Trade, and they believe they can best do so by asking their Fellows to act on the Society's behalf and place their services at the Board's disposal. Professor Alexander Blackie William Kennedy and Professor William Chandler Roberts-Austen have been requested to take on this duty, and both men have expressed their willingness to do so. |
