Title | Copy letter from Robert William Frederick Harrison, W G Bond, Editor, 'The Electrician', Salisbury Court, Fleet Street, E.C. |
Date | 21 July 1896 |
Description | In reply to the Editor's letter of yesterday, Harrison does not know of any reason against the Editor being informed of the main results of the Conference on an International Catalogue of Scientific Literature though as the actual minutes have not yet been signed, he is not in a position to communicate them in extenso.
The statements in the 'Daily Chronicle' appear in the main correct with the exception that the contemplated 'Catalogue' is to comprise all published original contributions to pure science and will not be limited to papers published in the transactions et cetera of scientific societies. The precise limits of several sciences to be included are left to the Committee. Both the author's names and subject catalogues will be in English.
The conclusions of the Conference were only on general lines, one of their most important results being that a representative International Council shall be appointed to carry out the scheme on the general lines laid down at the Conference, which did not commit itself to any particular system of indexing. |
