Title | Copy letter from A H White, to Professor Arthur Mason Worthington, Fellow of the Royal Society |
Date | 2 September 1896 |
Description | White saw the Direct Photo-Engraving Company's manager again yesterday. The manager is taking back all proofs and originals as yet delivered to take fresh proofs, in order to meet Worthington's wishes as far as he can regarding the printing. It seems as if a good deal must be lost by the mere process of reproduction. The manager says he intentionally printed them 'fat' to try to keep them 'soft' and bring out detail. The absence of glossiness is chiefly owing to the difference in paper used.
Enquires about the arrangement of the figures on various plates.
When Worthington has passed the proofs as to the engraving, White wonders if he would like to see another complete set with lettering inserted, or whether he would be willing to leave that to the Society. In the former case they would need to send the whole set of originals again.
Is now posting proofs of the text of the paper and Worthington will find the two diagrams of apparatus in them. Unless Worthington would like an immediate revise, it might be safer to keep the proof by him until the plates are all approved. The description of the plates is to come at the end as agreed. White asks if he should insert it from the original plates or if Worthington will do so. |
