| Description | Lister reiterates that many prominent industry representatives are supportive of the scheme to establish a National Physical Laboratory, and states that since they last spoke on the subject, the attention of Lewis Frith, of the firm Thomas Frith & Sons Limited, has been directed to the scheme. Frith is 'warmly in favour of it' and has stated that he believes approval would be forthcoming from the owners and directors of the main Sheffield firms engaged in the iron industry.
Frith has provided evidence in the form of three letters which Lister encloses [not included], and Lister expressed his understanding that the firms who have signed these letters are among the 'most important' in Sheffield, with Messrs J Brown & Company a particularly well-known manufacturer of armour plates. Lister also encloses two letters from Mr Hadfield which Professor Arthur Rucker referred to in their conversation with Gascoyne-Cecil. |
