Description | Professor Meldola has sent to Harrison the letter of Vassilief relating to the proposed International Catalogue of Scientific Literature. Forwards a copy [not enclosed] of the Report of the International Conference which was held in 1896 on this subject, as well as a copy of the scheme of classification for Mathematics [not enclosed], which the Committee of the Royal Society have drawn up and put forward as a suggested system of classification to be adopted in the Catalogue. These suggestions will be considered at a further Conference, hoped to h be held later this year. The report is now being circulated through the British government to the governments of the other countries of Europse and to the delegates who were nominated by these countries. The delegate for Russia is M Stasow and copies of the report are being despatched to him this week.
Professor A R Forsyth of Cambridge has taken the principal part in drawing up the enclosed scheme for Mathematics and Harrison is sure that Forsyth would wish to know Vassilief's thoughts on the subject. |
