Title | Copy letter from Arthur William Rucker, to Sir Douglas Strutt Galton, Fellow of the Royal Society |
Date | 12 December 1898 |
Description | Council has appointed a small Committee to carry on negotiations with the Treasury as to the National Physical Laboratory. By some oversight Galton's name was omitted, but the mistake has been rectified by the Committee itself. Hopes that Galton consents to serve. Sends Galton a copy of the original letter from Treasury and of the reply of the Royal Society thereto [not attached]. To this the Treasury has replied, conceding to all the Society's requests but asking that they should within a month state how much they wish to be included in the estimates for next year for building.
Explains why they thought it would be sufficient to ask for £5000 for building in next years estimates and Rucker was directed to inform the Treasury of this. At its first meeting the Committee also considered a draft scheme for the Government of the [National Physical] Laboratory, which is now being printed with the modifications introduced by the Committee. A copy of this will be sent to Galton. |
