Description | In answer to letter, by the statutes of the Royal Society, every candidate must be proposed and recommended by a certificate in writing signed by [six] or nine Fellows. On this certificate it is stated that 'it is understood that the candidate himself will not circulate this certificate nor apply for signatures'. It would therefore be contrary to these regulations to supply Small with a form. If some of Small's friends, who are Fellows, wish to propose him as a candidate, one of them must apply for the form and take charge of the matter. |
