Title | Copy letter from Arthur William Rucker, to Wilson Fox, The Observatory, Falmouth |
Date | 28 February 1899 |
Description | With reference to Fox's letter stating that his Committee propose to relinquish the Magnetic Observations at Falmouth Observatory, the President and Council of the Royal Society referred it to the Kew Committee.
The Chairman of the Metereological Council was present at the meeting and states that inspectors in the pay of the meteorological office are sent regularly to inspect the Meteorological Society at Falmouth and are frequently experts in the use of magnetic instruments. They could probably report upon the Magnetic Observatory regularly and the Meteorological Council would be willing for them to do this at no cost. If the cost of inspection has been a factor in the Committee deciding to give up the Magnetic Observatory, it is hoped that, as a result of the above, this will not prove as onerous as previously thought. |
