Description | Directed to enquire whether Ewing would be willing to accept the post of Director of the National Physical Laboratory. Send the following documents for information: -The report of Lord Rayleigh's Commission [not enclosed] -A copy of the evidence taken by Commission [not enclosed] -The scheme of organization agreed upon between the Treasury and the Royal Society [not enclosed] -A list of the Executive Committee [not enclosed] -A copy of a letter addressed to the Executive Committee which details how the work will be inaugurated [not enclosed] -A report of the Kew Observatory Committee [not enclosed] -A statement as to the emoluments, duties, and conditions of tenure of office of the Director, which have been approved by the President and Council [enclosed on page 472]
The Director should command the confidence both of those interested in Science and Industry. Ewing can arrange for an interview with Vice-Chairman (Lord Rayleigh) or the members of the Executive Committee if he wishes. |
