TitleCopy letter from Arthur William Rucker, to Professor George Carey Foster, Fellow of the Royal Society
Date3 January 1900
DescriptionSome time ago [Joseph] Lister wrote to Rucker introducing a Mr Thelwall who wished to make a communication to the Society and asking for Foster's advice. Rucker replied to the President and Thelwall that he very much disliked giving opinions to strangers on these communications.

Rucker told Thelwall that if he sent in his paper it should be dealt with in the ordinary manner, but it must be communicated by a Fellow, and that if he did not know anyone, Rucker would communicate the paper pro forma on the strength of the President's introduction.

Rucker has read the paper and written a report on it but as he is also the communicator he queries if another opinion should be sought. Queries if Foster will give his opinion and if not suggests Dr [William] Pole, or failing him, [John Henry] Poynting.
