Title | Copy letter from Herbert Rix, to Sir William Aitken [Fellow of the Royal Society] |
Date | 3 July 1888 |
Description | Rix explains the process of the submission of papers to the Royal Society.
For a Fellow to communicate a paper as suitable for reading before the Society he needs only to annotate the manuscript to indicate that it has been communicated by them, and no further action is required of him. Long papers, intended for 'Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society' are to be supplied with an abstract to be read to the meeting, or the author may make an oral statement. Rix notes the risk that if the Committee of Papers decides not to publish a paper, it cannot be withdrawn by the author, and the Society deposits the manuscript in their archives. Authors can however ask for permission, rarely or never witheld, to take a copy of the paper for publication elsewhere. |
