Title | Copy letter from Herbert Rix, to the Secretary, Eastern Telegraph Company, 50 Old Broad Street, EC |
Date | 28 September 1888 |
Description | Rix was surprised to read in the The Times newspaper of a telegram sent to the Royal Society by Joseph Thomson and Harold Crichton-Browne from Magador on 19 September, as it did not reach them. Rix was further surprised that this has occurred in light of their previous correspondence, which included a promise from the Eastern Telegraph Company to send copies of any telegrams from Thomson and Crichton-Browne.
Rix understands that the messages come over their line free of charge, and as he knows nothing of this arrangement cannot tell if he may complain, but does ask for them to send all telegrams addressed to the Society or put them in touch with the end recipient of the messages. The importance of getting messages through to the Society from explorers is emphasised. |
