Title | Copy letter from Herbert Rix, to Professor Michael Foster [Royal Society] |
Date | 9 January 1888 |
Description | Updates on the business of the Royal Society.
Discusses the papers for that week, with a very short paper on the spectrum of the aurora by Joseph Norman Lockyer which arrived too late to be advertised but might still be read and two papers order for reading by John William Strutt, 3rd Baron Rayleigh.
Supplies information about a manuscript list of institutions drawn up by Rix and used at the last Library Committee meeting, with the countries and colonies mixed and arranged in strict alphabetical order, and towns beneath the headings also to be in alphabetical order, with 'Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society' and 'Proceedings of the Royal Society' mixed and individuals to be omitted, and a request for Foster to send a telegram noting his view.
Also asks whether the forthcoming volumes of 'Philosophical Transactions' are to be charged at the same price as the total of separate numbers, or at a higher price to cover the cost of printing the index, with Rix noting his preference for the same price as the simplest solution. |
