Title | Copy letter from Michael Foster, to the Conde de Ramanones, Ministro de Instruccion Publica, Madrid, Spain |
Date | 14 August 1901 |
Description | A conversation Foster had with Dr A Aguliar of Madrid a few days ago has encouraged him to write directly on the following matter. In 1895 the British Government at the instigation of the Royal Society issued invitations to nearly all the Governments of the civilized world to attend an International Conference in order to consider the publication by International Co-operation of a complete Catalogue of Scientific Literature. Details three conferences held and sends various related documents [not enclosed] from which the Conde will see that Spain has taken no part in the proceedings which is to be greatly regretted. Presently the Regional Bureau of France has assumed the task of collecting the titles of Spanish Scientific Literature.
Is confident the Conde cannot approve of the isolation of Spain from such a meritorious scientific enterprise. |
