| Description | Huggins informs them he has not received their letter of 24 June or 25 June, although he has received from the Secretary of the Royal Geographical Society copies of these letters, as well as letters of Sir Clements Markham, which were written without the knowledge of the Royal Society.
Strongly states that when he signed the joint letter of 23 June he intended the offer to transfer the 'Morning' to the Admiralty to be unconditional and absolute, without any idea of the vessel being returned afterwards, and so Huggins is much surprised at Markham's letter.
The 'Morning' does belong to the Royal Geographical Society, so he is unable to make definite reply to the question raised in their letter, but assures him in the next few days he will be able to provide them with a letter stating that the Royal Geographical Society is willing to give up the ship as they require, unconditionally and absolutely. |
