Title | Copy letter from Robert William Frederick Harrison, to Professor Sidney Harris Cox Martin, Professor Rubert William Boyce, [Fellows of the Royal Society], and Professor McFadyen |
Date | 19 December 1902 |
Description | Since the recipients have not been present at previous meetings of the Malaria Committee at which the investigation of Sleeping Sickness has been discussed, Harrison encloses a copy of a report on the subject recently provided by Dr Castellani [not enclosed].
After examining the report the Committee concluded Castellani's conclusions were not sufficiently established to justify their immediate publication, but requested him by telegraph to continue his observations with a view to their confirmation and extension, and to remain if possible six months longer in Uganda for that purpose, and to send home cultures and preparations as soon as possible. Quotes a telegram from Castellani dated 29 November in which he states he is quite certain of his results and that he will bring home cultures. Also quotes a telegram of 15 December in which Castellani states '14 cases positive out of 16'. |
