| Description | Harrison saw Lieutenant Colonel David Bruce this morning and showed him the enclosed letter from the Foreign Office [no enclosures]. He seemed to think it not the case, and practically conceded all the conditions, and his wife went off to book their passages. It seems to be at odds with Clement Hill's letter to Harrison, which appears to be what Bruce supposed he would not dispatch.
The only thing now is to hope that the local medical team with co-operate. It seems Christy was not the only one to quarrel with Moffatt, and the Royal Society seems to be in some bad odour. It needs to be shown to the local men that Bruce has gone with authority and is a bigger man than those who have gone before. A private letter to Sir John Kirk, who is on his way, may remove passive or active obstruction. The Royal Society has also received a letter from the Foreign Office regarding a political question. |
