Title | Copy letter from Joseph Larmor, to Professor John William Mallet, Fellow of the Royal Society |
Date | 21 July 1903 |
Description | With reference to Mallet's memoir on gold leaf, Larmor has to report that the Physics Committee of the Society feel in difficulty. The illustrations of the paper are very expensive and some time ago the Committee were instructed to keep such expenses down. As a consequence the Committee decided they could not publish a metallurgical memoir very cognate to Mallets, and a shortened account is now going into the 'Proceedings [of the Royal Society]', in part at the author's expense. As the abstract for Mallet's paper has already appeared in the 'Proceedings', the Society are willing to publish the paper in the 'Philosophical Transactions [of the Royal Society]' with about three illustrations in half tone. The Committee much regret that they see no alternative to this course, unless it be published in a more complete manner through another channel. For that purpose the illustrations could be returned, but the Society would desire to retain the manuscript. |
