Title | Copy letter from Archibald Geikie, to Major Percy Alexander MacMahon, Fellow of the Royal Society |
Date | 21 March 1907 |
Description | The question raised in his letter of 30 January to Professor Joseph Larmor, as to the disposition of the two platinum metres of the Royal Society, which have been so long in the hands of the Standards Department, was discussed at Council last week. They adopted the suggestion made by Larmor that the Standards Department be requested to undertake a detailed comparison of the two metres under reference, with modern standards, and inform Council of the results. The metres will then be sent to the National Physical Laboratory for a similar purpose, and that the future of the metres be considered when the reports have been received. Asks if MacMahon's department will accept the duty. The Director of the National Physical Institute shall then be consulted. |
