| Description | Geikie announces that the Committee of the Royal Society, appointed to supervise the Malta Fever investigation by a nominated Commission, reports that the Commission has completed its work and Geikie calls attention to the results of their efforts. The final published reports, forwarded by Geikie, show that the cause of the disease has been discovered and traced, the circumstances leading to the spread of the fever have be identified, and the measures needed to eradicate it have been clearly ascertained. He also encloses a Committee memorandum which gives instructions for how to eliminate the disease from Malta.
The Society are satisfied that a definite solution for the problem, affecting large numbers of Britain's forces and the civil population of the island, has been found, and believe the Government will share this satisfaction. They hope that the Government will initiate the measures recommended in the memorandum, which will maximise the effect of the Commission's recommendations. |
