Title | Copy letter from Robert William Frederick Harrison, to Professor Arthur Schuster, Fellow of the Royal Society |
Date | 12 April 1907 |
Description | Harrison acknowledges Schuster's letter of 8 April and states that he has made the suggested alterations to the Lunar Nomenclature Memorandum, and hopes that Schuster approves of the enclosed copy [not included], as he has ordered 300 to allow him to send the necessary quantity to Vienna.
He expresses confusion about what Professor Suess expects of the Royal Society regarding the Solar Union. Harrison reminds Schuster that he reported the circumstances connected with it to Council, and the International Academies Committee, with Schuster as Chair, passed a recommendation which was adopted by Council, but this was simply an instruction to delegates rather than a formal notice or agenda item to be communicated to the Directing Academy beforehand. Furthermore, Harrison has noted the subject is on the agenda of the Council of the Association, having been deferred from the previous year. The only thing referred to the Royal Society was to take the constitutional point into further consideration. He asks that Schuster write to Seuss to explain the situation.
A postscript asks if Schuster thinks the British Academy of Philosophy should be asked to join the meeting. |
