Title | Copy letter from Robert William Frederick Harrison, to Douglas Freshfield, Wych Cross Place, Forest Row, Sussex |
Date | 11 July 1907 |
Description | Harrison apologises that, despite the two week delay, he has very little information to communicate regarding the visit of de Saussure in 1768, having been able to find no information in their records. He has found him listed amongst visitors entertained by the Royal Society Club, published in the "Sketch of the Rise and Progress of the Royal Society Club" printed in 1860, and supposes it was at a dinner of the Club that he met Banks, Solander and the others he mentions.
Dr Maty, who showed Saussure round the British Museum is likely to be Paul Henry Maty, under-Librarian to the British Museum and compiler of the General Index to the Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society, published in 1787. |
