Title | Copy letter from Joseph Larmor, Secretary RS to Professor W [William] H [Hicks] FRS, Leamhurst, Ivy Parl, Sheffield |
Date | 3 May 1910 |
Description | 'Dear Sir, Your letter of March 23rd on the subject of Dr J [Jocelyn] F [Field] Thorpe's application for a Government Grant were reported to the President and Council at their meeting last week. I am instructed to inform you that after full consideration they resolved. (1) That the Council cannot undertake to review a recent decision made on a report of the Government Grant Committee, especially as they have reason to believe that the subject was adequately considered both at the Chemistry Board and at the Meeting of the full Committee. (2) That the administration of the Government Grant is confided in the first instance to the Government Grant Committee, appointed for that purpose, and the Council cannot see their way to issuing instructions to limit their discretion.' |
