Description | 'Last summer, on the occasion of the celebration by the Royal Society of the 250th Anniversary of its foundation, the Imperial Universities of Tokio and Kyoto paid the Society the compliment of presenting Addresses of congratulation on the event. It is desired to print these Addresses in a collected form, together with those received from numerous universities and learned bodies in all parts of the world; and so far as that received from the University of Tokio is concerned no difficulty presents itself; because the University has furnished an English translation, accompanying the original Address in the Japanese language. The Address from the Kyoto University, however, is written in the Japanese character, and I am desired by the President to say that he would feel greatly obliged if you could help him to obtain a translation of this document into English, in order that it may be printed as above-mentioned. For any assistance you can give me in this matter I shall be very grateful.' |
