Title | Copy letter from Robert William Frederick Harrison to G Sandford-Thompson, Carrallack, St Just-in-Penwith, SO |
Date | 9 April 1913 |
Description | 'In reply to your letter of March 25th I am sorry that our records do not give the information you are for, but I find on referring to the Dictionary of National Biography that Dr Charles Morton was born in Westmoreland. I rather gather from the information given in your letter that you have had access to this book of references. I have looked up CM's certificate of election and find that he is there described as a "member" of the Royal College of Physicians. The certificate is signed by Martin Folkes then President, and by nine other Fellows. There is however now personal information on it. Munk's Roll of the Royal College of Physicians gives Charles Morton MD as a Licentiate but assigns him to the period 1683 to 1731 (date of death). It is noteworthy however that he also is described as MD of Leyden. His country of origin is given as Devonshire. It would be plausible to guess him as the father of your man.' |
