Description | Harrison has now received the Treasurer's sanction to the acceptance of their estimate of £1 a month for cleaning all the windows, with a bi monthly cleaning of the front windows. Given that the vacation is about the start and various internal decorations and other operations will be taking place, it is thought desirable to defer the operation of the contract until the end of September.
Regarding the question Harrison put to them about the safety appliances for the men cleaning the outside of the windows, he would like to again press that condition upon them. There are such appliances at the Royal Society, and Harrison makes a strict rule that when the Society's own man cleans the windows he should use them. There was a very serious accident at a neighbouring society in the [Burlington House] courtyard only a few days ago, when a window cleaner fell from outside a window on the first floor to the basement and was very seriously, perhaps fatally, injured.
Apart from the question of financial liability, the Society is very anxious that there should be no risk of such accidents happening here. |
