Title | Copy letter from Robert William Frederick Harrison, to Dr Charles Chree, Fellow of the Royal Society |
Date | 8 October 1913 |
Description | Replying to his two letters of this morning:
Personal knowledge on candidate's certificates has always been taken to mean personal knowledge of the candidate, knowledge of his works being covered by general knowledge. Every British male subject is certainly eligible for election, irrespective of colour or race. A native professor from India was candidate last year.
Regarding Professor [Arthur] Schuster, he is not accessible to letters because Harrison has been particularly asked not to send any letters to him at all. The latest news is that after being seriously knocked up during August he had gone abroad for a change is is now, so far as Harrison is aware, staying on the coast of Portugal. It is not of any use expecting him to attend to Gassiot business before the end of the month, when he is hopefully back and fit for work. |
