| Description | Harrison had no opportunity of consulting the President personally upon Hicks' letter of 23 May relating to the Sorby Fellowship candidates, but he had a talk yesterday with Professor [Arthur] Schuster and it was agreed that the better of the two courses he proposes will be to send the applications severally to the members of the Committee most cognizant of the subjects concerned.
This leaves the geological applications, of which there are four, in the air, but the remainder Harrison can dispose of in accordance with Hicks' suggestion and will do so, treating Burton, Cooper, Coplans, Franz, Harvey, Kleeman, O'Donoghue, Oxley and Patterson as being reported on by Hicks and Professor Macdonald.
The correct course under the regulations with any other applications than those referred to would seem to be for members of the Committee to obtain opinions on them personally for their own information. |
