| Description | There has been success in interesting Admiral Jackson in Walker's request for help from the Navy in getting to the Western Islands, and he has spoken to the First Sea Lord himself, who very kindly agrees to do what is possible to help. It remains now for an official application to be made to the Admiralty, but in doing so certain particulars must be sent. These are: the sequence of the itinerary, the estimated stop at each place and whether more than one place could be done per day, any assistance required from the ship's officers or men other than ordinary boat work.
He will be aware that if accommodation is required on board, it will hardly be on Ritz hotel scale. Thinks the official reply will probably be to put himself and the selected T B D into personal communication in order that the latter may submit a programme. Gather they could not give any assistance of that kind before the end of August or beginning of September, so Walker had better frame his scheme on that basis. They say the most convenient vessel would be a torpedo boat. The modern ones are large vessels. Hopes he is a good sailor. |
