Description |
'In reply to your letter of yesterday, enclosing a letter from Mrs Benson, I do not suppose the Council would raise any objection to her having a photograph of our portrait of Sir John Pringle; but at the present moment the operation would be impracticable because this picture, with others of our most valuable portraits, has been packed away in the cellars for security against probably bomb throwing, and it would be too great a disturbance of the whole arrangement to extract it.' |
