Title | Copy letter from Robert William Frederick Harrison, Assistant Secretary of the Royal Society to Sir William Henry Power KCB, FRS |
Date | 18 June 1915 |
Description | 'Everyone concerned has been very sorry not to see you at the meetings of the Swine Fever Committee, and it has been difficult to give you any connected account of what has been done so far because, as a matter of fact, it has been rather disconnected, and we have not yet printed the Minutes consecutively. I am about however to get the Minutes from the beginning printed to send round at the members, because there are several, whose attendance like your own, cannot be regular. In the meantime you may like to know that the affair has crystallized so far that we have got a grant of £5000 from the Development Commissioners, have obtained the use of the Lister Institute's experimental farm at Elstree, and have appointed Mr Major Greenwood and Dr Atkin to superintend the preliminary arrangements and investigations. They with the encouragements and investigations. They with the encouragment and assistance of the Board of Agriculture have hitherto been investigation outbreaks of the disease so as to familiarize themselves with it while the negotiations for the laboratory site were being carried on. I think that is all I can summarize in a letter but you shall have a copy of the complete Minutes when they are ready.' |
