Title | Copy letter from William Bate Hardy, Vice President of the Royal Society to Richard Threlfall FRS |
Date | 10 August 1915 |
Description | 'Thanks for Michell's letter. I am am sorry I have to give up the jaunt to Kingsnorth. The problem of using water kites in connection with airships was referred to a committee composed of Cameron, Hartridge, (Kings College) and myself. Hartridge has been the active partner working at Kingsnorth. We feel that if the people really want the matter to go forward the experiments should be transferred to the National Physical Laboratory, where Hartridge would enjoy much greater facilities. A recommendation, something of this kind was sent in and it is supposed to have been transmitted to the Aeronautical Department at the Admiralty. Are you in a position to know whether the recommendation every got there? We rather feel that the people at Kingsnorth have tired of the scheme and if that is the case it is no use our wasting time on it.' |
