DescriptionReplying to a letter of the 26 May regarding the appointment of a Director of the National Physical Laboratory to succeed Sir Richard [Tetley] Glazebrook, FRS, which has been under consideration by the Council of the Royal Society. After consulting with the Executive Committee of the Laboratory, and in accordance with the Provisions for the Control of the Laboratory, the Royal Society nominates Professor J. E. [Joseph Ernest] Petavel, FRS, currently Professor of Engineering at the University of Manchester and Director of the Whitworth Laboratory.
